Not a bad bit of coverage for our adobe brick mission. It’s a step in the right direction. One of my quotes is a frustrating one. I laugh to not cry into my bricks. But yeah, bootstrapping a project like this with so many wheels in need of reinventing is pretty hard, so I do appreciate whatever support we get.
“This ancient construction is considered cutting edge so I couldn’t get a construction loan,” he laughs.
It is sooooo hard to beleive that los Angeles, in all of their build back better bravado, feels they don’t have the bandwidth to even consider new solutions. They just want to make the same mistakes with the same corporate approved materials, while the actual solution to eco-positive, fireproof homebuilding is right there- and HAS BEEN FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS!
Jim Hallock, a Texas contractor, summed it up perfectly in this quote.
Jim Hallock, a Texas contractor, is one of them. “I would be dumbfounded if they ever let anyone build out of wood in Los Angeles anymore,” says Hallock, who has already begun moving two hydraulic presses, a mixer, rollers, and block machines to Southern California. “We’re not fire resistant, we’re fire proof. You can’t burn an earth block.”
That’s where we are as of September 2025. Now I’d better go back to work. I have bricks to make and pricks to kick against. Wish me luck.
